30th August 2017

New Features

  • We've added the functionality to export your receipt images. You'll notice a Run Receipts Image Extract button on both the Manage > People Expenses and Manage > Central Expenses pages, which allow you to download all receipt images from the expense items. HMRC, bring it on!
Enhancements
  • Exporting a large amount of Timesheets and Expenses wasn't as easy as it should be. We've improved that process, so if you have a lot of data in Manage, now you can expect several files to be included within the ZIP file you download.

4th August 2017

Feature Release

  • Reporting (BETA) is here for Jobs and Opportunities!

You can now create reports in Jobs and Opportunities, and can share those with your colleagues. We've also provided you with some default reports, which you can use as intended, or as the building blocks to create something more specific. As with the rest of Metis, you can export this data for further analysis.

This is the BETA version, so please expect us to be making active changes on these pages over the next couple of weeks. We always welcome your feedback while we do so. Reporting for People and Resourcing will be in our next release!

Enhancements

  • You're now able to add receipt images to mileage claim expense items.

Bugs and Minor Changes
  • We've resolved the issue around amending long internal job duration dates.

25th July 2017 Release

Bugs and Minor Changes

  • The expenses management system now allows admins to change the job on a claim and delete rows from claims.
  • The pipeline widget on the dashboards was showing to 14 decimal places, while we're all for detail, that felt a bit excessive so rounding has been restored!
  • We've made it easier to change the duration of a job by adjusting the role allocations for you.
  • There's been performance improvements in the management screens on the people tab.
  • A problem with the budget wizard "apply" button has been fixed and is now applying itself properly to the task in hand.
  • There was a long delay when saving very long internal jobs and we've made that much quicker.

19th July 2017 Release

New Features

  • We've now completed our upgrade of the Budget tab for jobs and opportunities. We've added a spreading wizard (edit pencil) to the Resource Plan, to help you when spreading effort over a role's duration. This includes helpful warning and error messages if the wizard isn't able to spread the effort as you intended. You can read more about the changes we've made to the Budget tab here.

Enhancements

  • A smarter Resource Plan means there are extra validations on entering effort in a week which contains no available working time i.e. bank holidays or on a weekend, if you classify a weekend as non-working time.
  • Any provisional resource allocations for opportunities that become Closed Lost, will not be shown on your schedule, on My Homepage and on the Resourcing Zone.
  • We've completed a full MOT on the Forecasting tab, and have re-confirmed all is working as it should be.
  • We've improved the My Time Off tab. When you book time off, Metis excludes non-working time (company and custom working week), and bank holidays. Great!
  • When adding a Client to the Clients Zone, you now have a suitable choice of Country. Quite literally, the world is your oyster!
  • We recently released a Metis Extension for Google Chrome! You can access the Metis login page with one click, to make managing your business even easier! You can read how to get the extension here.

Bugs and Minor Changes

  • When adding jobs to your timesheet, the adder became lazy and stopped showing you the newly added jobs. We've given the adder some vitamins, and now she's back on form.
  • Filtering by Opportunity Status on the Clients Zone filters is working correctly again.
  • The Jobs list page was showing some jobs with 0 value and gross margin, despite there being correct values within the job itself. We've corrected that bias and the Jobs list page now takes no sides.
  • The Time Off tab also needed some supplements to stop the confusion. Your time off now stays in the financial year which you add it to, and he's confident enough to show the bookings on your Timesheets & Expenses Summary page.
  • The Resource Plan total costs have been recalculated, due to a missing trigger. Now people's role costs are correctly contributing to the total.
  • The weekly forecast totals for individuals are being forecasted properly. Metis lost track of time for a moment there.

21st June 2017 Release

Bugs and Minor Changes

  • Effort-driven jobs are now recalculating like they should be.
  • We've swatted the nasties that were affecting assignments on My Assignments (My Homepage) and the Resourcing Zone, so your schedule is no longer unnecessarily hectic.
  • We also had a temporary blip in csv exporting from Manage, but we've fixed that now too.

15th June 2017 Release

Enhancements

  • We've introduced a messaging module into Metis to make it easier for us to keep you up to date with all the new goodies we're adding to the system. Keep your eyes peeled for this!
  • We've also changed the look of the Forecast, BudgetInvoicing and Team tabs in your jobs, along with the Budget tab in opportunities. This is to allow us to introduce improved functionality on the Budget tab which we're releasing in two parts. Part 1 has been delivered with this release, and part 2 will be following shortly. See more on the changes we've made here.
  • The effort-driven checkbox on the Resource Plan has been redesigned. You can also access this feature now through two places - the historic location within the Resource Plan, and now directly from editing your People/Time Revenue and Costs budgets.
  • We've tightened how Metis pulls information from across the system to give us confidence in the overdue T&E submission figures across Metis.

Bugs and Minor Changes

  • Timesheets have been taking their rejections slightly too seriously. We've consoled them and explained to them it wasn't personal.
  • The Clients list page now gives you the correct close dates for your Opportunities.

22nd May 2017 Release

Enhancements

  • We've made it mandatory for all People to have a cost in Metis, giving you more forecasts even more reliable! You'll see this when inviting someone, and notice that everyone's cost profile will now have a cost that goes back until the end of time.

Bugs and Minor Changes
  • We've squashed the bug relating to incorrect job durations. Good riddance!

25th April 2017 Release

Bugs and Minor Changes

  • Timesheets are auto-totalling again.
  • You can use Metis in multiple tabs again - hooray!
  • In a battle with the timesheet Gremlin we've come out victorious - Approvers should now see what they expect to see.
  • So we fixed our colour-blind widgets, but with the wrong colour! Oh dear. Thankfully we've fixed that now.
  • We did some extra finishing touches to our new Calculate Utilisation metric button.

13th April 2017 Release

Enhancements

  • We've tightened up the Resource Plan behaviour to better respect submitted timesheets. This will make managing the Resource Plan less confusing - great!
  • And the Resource Plan for Opportunities is now playing ball and doing what it should when assigning someone.
  • You're now very easily able to exclude individuals from being included in group utilisation calculations. Click to read the article on how to do that.

Bugs and Minor Changes

We've been very busy this release!

  • Job Execs are no longer sticking around when they are not wanted on the Resource Plan.
  • The Resource Plan better accommodates if someone's promoted during their role allocation on a job.
  • We've healed our colour-blind My Jobs widget on My Homepage to now show the right colours for the right categories, and unmuddled it's mind in which Jobs it considered yours. Also we've made sure it can count - an all rounder on the My Jobs widget!
  • Our fabulous antidote for colour-blind widgets also healed the People Widget, on the summary numbers and the graph showing People's loads.
  • Your compliance information around Approvals (shown on My Homepage) is now unified throughout Metis.
  • Time off is now calculated properly on Resourcing. That's quite important, that.
  • As an approver, you'll now see only the things you need to see, and they'll all add up. Phew, and I thought I was going mad..
  • We've made the Forecast tab clearer in displaying non-chargeable time summaries for both individuals, and for the whole job.
  • When creating an expense item, changing from an Internal job to a Client job now changes the expense to client chargeable. If you're in a generous mood of course you can still spread some Easter joy..

30th March 2017 Release

This is a big release where we have focused on some small but pesky issues that have been annoying you and us

Enhancements

  • You can now opt to close an opportunity without turning it into a new job - very useful if you want to deal with a new win by extending an existing job
  • You can also now edit previously-closed opportunities

Bugs and Minor Changes

  • Resolved a significant issue which was affecting resourcing plans containing people who had variable resource allocation. We've spoken to customers affected by this and locked everything down to prevent it happening again
  • Fixed an error which very occasionally caused new lines in the resource plan not to be saved
  • Tidied up the calculations in resource plans to deal with some errors in unusual situations
  • If you knew what you were doing you could continue to add time to a job even after your role had officially ended. We've called time on that one.
  • Some people were able to approve or reject expenses items that they were not the official approver for. We have rejected that behaviour now
  • Sorted an error where the wrong message popped up on conversion from opportunity to job. We no longer ask you to reboot the cat and polish the bins.
  • Sorted some inconsistent wording issues. You probably didn't notice them but they were making us very twitchy
  • Resolved an issue which was preventing edits to Time Off, just in time for summer holidays.
  • In our previous upgrade we had inadvertently stopped everyone using the 'non-chargeable' box on timesheets. All systems are go on that box again now.
  • Fixed an impressive variety of navigational, sorting, display, refreshing and loading issues. All of these fixes are focused on improving the accuracy, clarity and reliability of what Metis tells you. We didn't want to bore you with a long list of specifics. But do ask if you want to know more

16th March 2017 Release

Enhancements

  • We've made some changes on the front end which affects how you see Metis. By doing this we hope to improve Metis' performance - hopefully less loading time on information-heavy pages! If in doubt about anything you're seeing, please let us know.

Bugs and Minor Changes

  • We've tweaked the misbehaving filters on the Manage > Approvals page. Now they're behaving as they should be.
  • We've also patched the leaking list via the Assign function in the Resource Plan. You can now choose who you're supposed to!

1st March 2017 Release

Feature

  • You can now download your company's expenses as a Xero-friendly csv file, which can be uploaded into Xero. The possibilities are endless! To find out more about how this works, please read our article on Xero-friendly exports in Metis.

23rd February 2017 Release

Enhancements

Utilisation

  • Utilisation figures shown on your Homepage and in the Dashboards will now be more accurate - playtime is over it seems...

Bugs and Minor Changes

Jobs and Resourcing

  • We've plugged the leak! Client opportunities when converted into jobs now count towards utilisation.
  • The role copy function on the Resource Plan now works as it should.

16th February 2017 Release

Enhancements

User Management

  • With more and more of you using our Mobile Apps we’ve made it possible to change your password on a phone or tablet.

  • Likewise users can now accept their invitations to start using Metis and complete the sign-up process on the move - go Road Warriors!

  • At the other end of The Circle of Life we’ve improved the user deactivation functionality to prevent former team members being added to jobs or opportunities by mistake.

Bugs and Minor Changes

General Changes

  • Time-off bookings were getting confused between calendar and company financial year. We’ve sat them down and explained the difference to them.

  • If you started an expenses claim on your mobile phone and then edited on the web the values sometimes got reset. We’ve fixed that.

31st January 2017 Release

Bugs and Minor Changes

   Jobs and Opportunities

  • Did you spot the pesky $ sign that showed up sometimes when you created an opportunity?  It should have been £’s and now it is.

  • We saw that even when a Job Executive was removed from the job, they still remained attached to it and could add time and expenses. We’ve told them to “Let it go, let it go” and now they do.

  • You can now change the expected start and end dates for your opportunity without it resetting the monthly budget numbers - it was trying to be helpful, but it wasn’t always the case.

  • You were wondering why some jobs were missing from the "My Jobs" display. We found the bug and squashed it.

   Timesheets and Expenses

  • Sometimes on the resource plan if the allocated person didn’t have a cost figure Metis made one up for you. That’s not the sort of creativity you’re expecting from us.

  • We found that our bot was not creating timesheets for all users. Equality has been been restored.

  • You told us there were rounding issues when calculating VAT for Central Expenses. Now there’s nothing round about VAT calculations.

  • It is now possible to close a mileage expense when in edit mode, as it should be the case.

   General Changes
  • We corrected the year to date filter to match your financial year and not the calendar year.

  • As soon as a user is deactivated, their authentication tokens will expire and they will not be able to access Metis either on the web or by mobile.

19th January 2017 Release

Feature

  • Metis now supports multi payment types for expenses. People can now tell you how they paid for expenses they incurred, if they were using their own funds or a company card. Metis will show you which expenses are reimbursable and which ones to match with the company card bill.

Enhancements

  • We will stop nagging deactivated users when their timesheets and expenses have been rejected. We don't allow them back into the Metis to do anything about it, so no point nagging them.

  • Those expense receipts previews have been super sized. What's more, you can also open them in a new tab in their original size, no retouching or squinting required.

Bugs and Minor Changes

    Jobs and Opportunities

  • All senior member of your company can now access jobs pages in view mode.

  • We have improved the design of the page that lets you add people to resource plans.

  • We told off the resource plan for zeroing out the total jobs costs when any one on the resource plan did not have a cost profile setup.

    Time and  Expenses

  • Our bot was a bit patchy on when it created timesheets for active users. We sat down and had a constructive chat with it and it is behaving more predictably now.

  • The wrong sort of leaves on the line was causing issues with bulk approvals on the Manage Timesheets page. Now all swept up.

  • The currency symbol now appears to the right of the amount when entering or editing an expense item.

    General Changes

  • We made the display of company financial year more consistent across Metis.

22nd December 2016 Release

Bugs / Minor Changes

    Job Financials

  • That annoying rounding error on the job budget cost line, no more!
  • The copy functionality in the resource plan no longer freezes, it just gets on with it and creates a copy of the selected role.
  • When you change the cost per hour of a person it automatically triggers an update of the budget calculations.

    Time and Expenses

  • You said the message "You have added X of X expected hours" on your homepage is not useful. We listened, it's out.
  • When you reject an expense line it no longer displays the expense currency in dollars.

    Inviting Users

  • Metis clears the invite page when inviting a new person. We figured the previous person invited doesn't need another new invite.

20th December 2016 Release

Bugs / Minor Changes

    Job Financials

  • Unallocated roles in forecast calculation now use zero (actuals) rather than budget for past weeks. That's because unallocated roles can't enter timesheets.
  • Our calendar picker has been given a stern talking-to and now accepts typed-in dates. Excellent!

    People Expenses

  • We have introduced a default VAT rate for all expenses.
  • The T&E summary page no longer makes it look like Black Friday by showing all claims as having been made today.

    People

  • New users on the sneaky spectrum were able to avoid accepting our Terms of Use and Cookie Policy. No longer.
  • Making someone their own line manager no longer doubles the number of people under them (phew!).

    Approvals

  • Empty lists in My Approvals are now a thing of the past.

15th December 2016 Release

Enhancements

  • Metis Admin users can now delete opportunities. You can only delete opportunities that do not have a job associated with it. Deleting the opportunity will also release any resources that were provisionally booked to that opportunity.
  • The default filter on Manage Expenses will now initially only show claims that have not been paid. You can see the full list of claims by including Paid claims in your filter.
  • The pipeline dashboard page now shows all current open opportunities so you can see the opportunities you are currently working on. (That's one less excuse you can use in your sales meeting.)

Bugs / Minor Changes

Resourcing

  • We have improved the contrast of the provisional booking line in resourcing grid. (We all sing together, "I can see clearly now the rain has gone..")
  • We resolved an issue where time off and client jobs were being displayed incorrectly in the Resourcing Page.

Time and Expenses

  • Metis filters on list pages are now inclusive of the selected date. This fix impacts Manage/Timesheet, Manage/People Expenses, Manage/Central Expenses and the Receipt Library.
  • We resolved an issue where a lower level user who was a job lead or line manager would see "Undefined" as job names for items they were being asked to approve. (How dare we ask you to approve something that was undefined?)
  • Manage Timesheet and Manage Expenses list now show claims and timesheets with status "Awaiting resubmission". The filters for these lists have also been updated to include this status.
  • We fixed an issue where the approvals count and approval overdue count on My Homepage did not include timesheets with only Time-Off line items.
  • We fixed an issue where "Add a job or time off" became unusable after you searched for a job that did not exist.

Opportunities

  • We have resolved an issue where you would get rounding errors when creating an opportunity. (As they say, look after the pennies..)

Other

  • We have fixed the issue where when opening multiple tabs, you would have the pages continually refreshing.

12th December 2016 Release

Feature Release

  • We have introduced a feature called 'Cutover Date' to make it easier to record financial history in Metis for the period before you went live. Most people using Metis for the first time like to enter some financial history for jobs so that pipeline views give a full year's picture of the business. The typical way to enter job history is to enter their actual revenues in the months concerned. The problem is that previously, Metis would assume your time and materials jobs had zero revenue for periods in the past where your team hadn't entered any timesheets or expenses. This sort of defeated the purpose of entering history. With our shiny new Cutover Date feature then Metis will assume that Forecast revenues are the same as Budget for all periods before the cutover. Or to put it another way, your pre-cutover job history will now be restored to the Pipeline Dashboard. All periods after the cutover date work as normal. If you are an existing customer, your Metis contact will be in touch with you over the next two weeks to discuss setting a suitable cutover date and the impact it will have on your pipeline and your job margins. The default cutover is set as 1 Jan 2015.

Enhancements

  • You can now change a job's duration without it resetting the job's budget and resource plan distributions. You will be prompted to verify that the budget distribution and resource are correct.

Bugs

  • You will see the following improvements in Jobs
    • Enhanced effort-driven budgets to now update in real time when changes are made to the resource plan
    • Corrected an issue where rounding errors were sometimes visible after creating effort-driven jobs
    • Corrected an issue where the invoicing tab would occasionally show incorrect chargeable hours for T&M jobs
    • Resolved an issue with red text flashing very briefly when entering or leaving job & opportunity budget pages
